Review:
It’s winter and Scooper and Dumper are ready to help out their town on a snow day. Scooper is in charge of loading salt into Dumper’s bed. Dumper spreads the salt all over the town. Together, they chant…
“Clear the road.”
“Salt the street.”
“Work together.”
“Can’t be beat.”
When the city is out of salt, Scooper calls Dumper who is happy to help out his neighbor. Not only do Scooper and Dumper model teamwork, but they also demonstrate lending a hand (or wheels) to others in times of need.
Worried about her friend who is never late, Scooper thinks about the situation. At first, she doubts her ability to help Dumper, for she fears she is too slow. Soon a wave of confidence rises in Scooper, for she is determined to find and help Dumper. Once she sees her best friend, Scooper begins to chant their song. Using her bucket, she digs Scooper out of the drift and they both head back home together.
As a reading specialist, I have the pleasure of reading aloud to a second grade class daily. Thanks to Kindle Unlimited, I was able to share a digital version of this heartwarming story with them this week. After reading, we discussed the lessons Scooper and Dumper taught us. Here are some of their responses.

Kids need stories that teach these important themes-friendship, teamwork, and being brave even when you are scared. With a bouncy, rhyming text and adorable anthropomorphic illustrations of the trucks, Scooper and Dumper is a story that will keep kids’ ears and eyes entertained.

Lindsay Ward is the creator of the Dexter T. Rexter series, as well as Rosie: Stronger than Steel, This Book Is Gray, Brobarians, Rosco vs. the Baby, and The Importance of Being 3.
